The common belief, unfortunately promulgated by many tarot teachers (but not all!) is that the first thing you need to do is memorize 78 card meanings (156 if you’re reading reversals!) This is overwhelming in itself, and if you think that down the line you’ll be expected also to learn esoteric systems like numerology, astrology, and qabalah, it seems like it would just be so much simpler to pull an angel card with an inspiring verse on it. The thing that holds people back from tarot is the belief that due to the complex structure, it’s difficult to learn. But I’ll try to be fair to each before I proselytize for tarot. That said, I have a few oracle decks that I’ve worked with and once or twice I tried out an angel deck. I’ll give you the same disclaimer that I gave the group: I’m a tarot reader and my intention is to promote tarot. Kendara asserted that oracle cards are simply easier to read.
